The Importance of Green Cleaning

Updated: Aug 8, 2023

Several cleaning companies advertise that they use Green Cleaning methods. What is green cleaning, and why is that a benefit to me and my home?

Green cleaning is the practice of using cleaning products, equipment, and methods that are environmentally safe for people and the planet. Green cleaning products are naturally derived, non-toxic, and biodegradable. Conventional cleaning products contain ingredients that are hazardous, non-biodegradable, and from non-renewable resources, so they adversely affect the earth's eco-systems. A choice to use green cleaning products is a choice to protect the environment, as well as your family's health.

Many conventional cleaning products release harmful chemicals. These are certainly not healthy to breathe in! When you use green products in your home, you can feel safe and comfortable knowing your family isn’t taking harsh chemicals into their lungs or skin. Green cleaners aren't corrosive and meet strict standards regarding inhalation toxicity, combustibility, and skin absorption.

Conventional cleaning products can cause a myriad of health issues. Allergy sufferers often find that their reactions can be worsened by typical cleaning chemicals used around the home. Coughing, sneezing, skin rashes, headaches, and more may disappear once you stop using toxic cleaning chemicals. Chemicals in conventional cleaners have been shown to alter hormones and cause issues such as cancers, neurological disorders, weakening of the immune system, learning disabilities, allergies, infertility and more. Many of the hazardous chemicals in conventional products are often carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, or endocrine disrupters. Conventional cleaning products can contribute to higher pollution indoors than outdoors. Volitile Organic Compounds (VOCs), have been associated with a host of health problems like damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. VOC's are released when products are used and stored and can also linger in the air long after use.

How does green cleaning stack up against conventional chemical cleaners? Green cleaning products have shown to be just as effective at tackling various cleaning chores as traditional cleaning products. They are non-corrosive, sanitize, and have a clean scent. The best choice is clear.

Bright at Home Cleaning proudly uses green cleaning products, equipment, and procedures in the homes we clean. We want our clients to feel comfortable that their home is not only expertly clean, but also a safe and healthy environment.
